Both pubs are included in Estrella Damm’s Top Gastropubs list, which features places from all over the country
Two Cambridgeshire village pubs have been named among the top 100 gastropubs in the UK for 2023. The Plough, in Coton, and The Three Hills, in Bartlow, both feature in Estrella Damm’s annual list of the top pubs in the country.
The entries are judged by an elite panel of chefs, restauranteurs and food writers throughout the UK. It is the 14th list to be published and celebrates the brilliance, vibrancy, and the best of the UK dining scene.
The Plough, located only three miles from Cambridge, is ranked at number 65 while The Three Hills, an award-winning rural pub, is ranked at number 90. They are the only two places in the county to feature on the list.
Estrella Damm describes The Plough as “a rustic, smart gastropub sitting in the idyllic village of Coton”. It also praised the menu, saying it served a mixture of modern and seasonal dishes along with the traditional pub classics and regularly changing specials board.
They continued: “Dating back to the 18th century, the rural gastropub is a local and destination venue offering a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for drinkers and diners alike, with a large garden and also a private dining room. Plough Owner and General Manager, Pasquale Benedetto has been in the hospitality industry for over 25 years.
“Pasquale has completely transformed the Plough Coton into an exemplary establishment with his work ethic and sheer passion for hospitality. It is clear that this pub is a labour of love for Pasquale and his team.”
The Three Hills, which has two AA Rosettes and a Michelin Plate, made the list for the second year in a row. Praise was given for its stunning atmosphere as well as the great food on offer at the pub.
It added: “You’ll find fresh, local ingredients on the menu, from light bites to classic dishes and everything in between. With stunning food, wonderful drinks and beautiful rooms, the Three Hills can provide the perfect setting to drink, eat and stay, enjoying the stunning setting inside and out.”
